I owe a very great debt of thanks to the following folks who have kindly extended help and the use of their facilities to host the Linux Gazette. Without their help, encouragement, and ongoing support the LG would not be possible. Thanks!
The Linux Gazette is an online WWW publication, and member of the Linux Documentation Project, that is dedicated to two pretty simple ideas:
making Linux just a little more fun
and, sharing ideas and discoveries.
Pretty simple, eh? The basic idea behind all of this is that Linux is one too way cool OS, whose price for admission is a willingness to read, learn, tinker (aka, hack!), and then share your experiences. The 'Gazette was designed to be a compilation of basic tips, tricks, suggestions, ideas, and some admittedly free-form stream of consciousness ramblings meant to make using Linux a bit more fun. It started out as strictly a personal project but has grown to include contributions graciously provided by a growning number of folks. It is to these that I am deeply indebted and wish to publicly offer my thanks! Which brings up another point:
Because the 'Gazette is a non-commercial publication, and will always remain that way, it is a bit at the whim of my schedule. When I have a bit of time on my hands I can write a lot. When things get busy, as they often do, I can't write much. Thanks to all for being patient. This is fun, but it does take a bit of time to put together :-)
So, hope that you enjoy this stuff, I know that I have. I'd encourage you to drop a note to the author of anything that you find particularly helpful or instructive. I've tried to include the author's email address for this very purpose. Also, I want to thank Matt Welsh, coordinator of the Linux Documentation Project, for graciously bringing the Linux Gazette under the auspices of the LDP. The material included in these documents is covered by a designedly liberal copyright: as long as you are using the material for non-commercial purposes, you can do with them pretty much as you please. How 'bout that for fun, eh?
Kudos, too, to the kind folks at RedHat Commercial Linux, the Linux Journal and SSC, and the UK arm of www.linux.org for kindly offering to host the LG and make their services available. Special thanks are due to the guys at Tennessee CommerceNet (thanks, Tim!) where all of this had its inception.
The table of contents below will be updated each month and allow you to easily find something of interest. You'll find the current month's LG at the top. So, hope you enjoy and thanks for dropping in.
Have fun!
